Microchipping provides a permanent means of animal identification that will not fade or be lost over time, as can occur with tattoos or tags. Owner information can be accessed immediately, ensuring the rapid return of the lost pet, avoiding delays which can be found with other methods of pet identification. The microchip is generally injected under the skin,sitting safely and totally inert. A special scanner is used to send a radio signal through the skin of the animal to read the chip.

This is a painless procedure whilst the scanner is passed over the animal's skin.The microchip is implanted with an instrument similar to a hypodermic needle,similar to an animal being vaccinated,causing no more discomfort than a routine injection.
