For some years now Paphiakos Animal Welfare has been planning to build a New Shelter, but this has not been without a number of seemingly insurmountable problems.
Apart from the need to raise a vast amount of money, not only for the building of the Shelter, but also for its upkeep and maintenance in the future,there have been many problems associated with finding a suitable location and obtaining all the necessary permits for building, as well as running a shelter.
This has resulted in endless meetings with government officials, the Mayor of Geroskipou and the District Officer. Plots of land have been ruled unsuitable for the development of a Shelter because the surrounding land “may” be used for housing sometime in the future and would be detrimental to the value of any property.
In some cases local officials have come up with a number of illogical reasons why the Shelter should not be built within their area.

Paphiakos Animal Welfare is now waiting for one signature giving permission to build, but even if this is given in the near future, the Charity will still not be in a position to proceed.
Unfortunately, despite the generosity of supporters, the money raised so far does not amount to enough to construct a modern shelter which will be built to the highest specifications
and will meet all the necessary EU standards. Although the New Shelter will be built in stages, starting with the Dog Shelter, for which we already have new portable temporary kennels,
we will still have to continue to operate the current shelter, which is a constant drain on our resources.

This is why we are appealing to the general public to give generously both for the New Shelter Appeal and our ongoing running costs.
